you have to put the zip file on your desktop and right-click and press extract all. Then you open the file you just extracted, open the top file, and press on the unity logo with Laserwave under it. Hope this helps! ;)
Well, the short answer is that it’s a pain in the ass.:) But basically they are all UI elements generated from the upcoming loops. The background is generated based on the length and the dots are positioned based on the drum informations in the loop. Then a script moves them in a direction and disables them when tey are not needed anymore. Hope this is sufficient but feel free to ask more.
I somehow flew off screen and I could not return back because I just kept on jump further and further up. After ~10 seconds my lasers didn't even reach the screen and I was fully softlocked (I couldn't even die). I have no idea how I got off screen, but it happened and I had to start over because of that
Great work!! A few suggestions; make the high notes red for attacks and the low notes blue for movement, and sync the colour of our avatar with them. It was difficult for me to glance back and forth so I think it would help keep track of what comes next. during some sections of the song I found I could get stuck at the bottom of the screen. Perhaps have a very limited control for boosting outside of the rhythm, or make the avatar a little bouncier at the bottom? Not 100% sure. Anyway great job thanks for putting this up for us to enjoy!
I prefer it like this and just learning the pattern, as it is a rhythm game. having played it a few times it feels really good to have learned the pattern.
I agree with DavoidZX. It is a rhythm game and the patterns do repeat. Plus, at the start of each level theres a full 4 (or 8 depending on the level) bar period before the hexagon appears so you know what the beat is, AND the 3rd level already demonstrates that idea perfectly and shows how you beat is incorporated every 8th bar so you know whats coming up.
Anyway, yes, DavoidZX is right, because this is primarily a rhythm game, and having to depend on just your eyes and not your eyes AND your ears is probably not the best of things to do.
Really cool game man!!! But I found a bug! It's possible to go over the screen boundaries without being bounced back. The easiest way that I found to reproduce it is at the begining of the game by keeping the mouse closer to the top corner of the losangle, in the third beat it will over the screen and it's impossible to get it back. Also, I think would be nice to get some inpirations from Guitar Hero series and similar games by having score and combos.
This game is so much fun! I wish there was a way to import your own songs, or community-made songs. But that sounds pretty difficult. Anyway, glad to have played it!
This game is so fun! I’m instantly immersed into the game and can’t stop bobbing my head to the beat. I think you should add a damage animation as it’s kind of hard to tell when you get hurt, but other then that it’s very well done!
The satisfaction of playing Laserwave is unreal (even though the game was made with Unity LOL lame joke here). Thank You so much for Your participation. Keep it up!
Thanks that is great to hear! I really think analog stick control would feel incredible and give this game a tighter level of control, while also opening it up to console players if/when this game gets further developed and ported! I hope it’s not too difficult to implement. Looking forward to your future development. Good luck!
I love this game concept so much! It's so cool, and fun, and satisfaying; I could play it for ages! I need more of this, haha! I would love to see a fuller game with this concept with more levels and beats / songs.
I love this game, everything about it. Once you get the beat of the music down, it is nothing but a joy to play. I saw that you are making more levels and I am going to assume more music will come with it. What if there was a setting to have the beats that are at the bottom of the screen be maybe in the background center? Idk if this would be to intrusive but it is a thought I had while playing, cant wait to see the other levels. Keep up the good work.
Thank you very much, I’m glad you had fun with it.
The beat grid makes me think a lot, because, yeah, you’re too busy surviving to watch it on the bottom, but I don’t want to make the center to be too busy either. I think I’ll leave it this way for the upcoming post-jam version but for later releases this will be one of my main concerns.
Hmm, my idea to address that might be to have a kind of brief "intro" section, where the grid is the focus just for the first loop to introduce it. Before it moves back to mostly being in the background.
what I have in mind for now is maybe use a subtle but overall large hint like a color overlay beneath the UI that slightly changes the whole color tone of the game. You could also have icons/color changes on the player itself. Love the game!
Amazing, perhaps for the post jam version make the map bigger or even loop around, only problem is that the walls aren't fun, everything else is amazing!

This is one of the few games in the jam that I think would actually make a successful full release. The gameplay reminds me of OSU! Great!
We’ll see!:) thank you!
how do you download this? :( i want to play but i dont know how to make it work :(
What seems to be the problem? The button in the download section not working? The game is only available for Windows for now though.

thank youu :D
no prob!
great game! How do you do the timeline thing for the notes in Unity?

Incredible game, I had so much fun! I would love to see a full release of this game!

The song is not mine. If you mean the synth bass loop, check here.

what if we could upload or make our own beat/song?
omg that good idea
I seriously love the idea behind Laserwave!! Judging by the number of people asking for more, it looks like I'm not the only one.
It would be really fun to make some music for this game! I made 2 demos for ya. Here is the first one, and here is a more retro one.
(The rhythm patterns for these are (1) this and (2) this.)
If you like these you can message me on twitter @mistwinsounds and I would be very happy to make more.
that would be SO COOL to have different songs and beats and more levels omg YES
Being able to upload levels/ songs would be awesome!

Man, oh man, i fu!#$!# love this, i need more of this, with more music and stuff i really loved this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I NEED MORE OF THIS. I LOVE IT.
I wouldn't give up till I at least heard more of the music. Very clever game idea.
Amazing game

I would love more music tracks and more levels!
I hate it.
Explain why
Too hard. (Don't take it personal. I am not a gamer and I am not used to fast movements with a mouse. The idea and is pretty good tho.)
If you hate games because your not good at them and you dont play games much, you would hate most games.
Actually no. There are many idle games or logic games.
If this isnt your preferred game type why give it a bad review?

Short, but really fun. Also hard.
man that was fun!

This is a amazing game! Please add more levels!

This game is fantastic. I wish it was longer! Endless mode please!
Thanks for playing, glad you liked it! Stay tuned for future plans :)

Haha, thank you!:)
So gooooooooooooood!
I need to check out this Jam, but your game was featured in some Youtube channel picked from the top 100 general games of the Jam. Good going!
Please keep working on it! I couldn't stop playing it such a fun concept,
Thank you! That’s the plan:)
I really feel the music with this game! Would love to see more levels.
One bug: If you fall off screen then you are kinda trapped since there's no way back.
Thank you!
That bug will be fixed in the upcoming post-jam version.
Awesome game but this NEEDS controller support!
Glad you liked it and thanks for the feedback! I’ll put it on the list:)

I’m planning on releasing a post-jam version soon with a few more levels. Thanks for playing! :)

This game is very cool. I think this is worth refining. It's way too hard for me as it currently is but the concept is really neato.
This is on my favourite games folder
Do more !!
Amazing game!
