I'm trying to make a guitar hero style game for my first unity project and am struggling with making a beatbar + syncing the notes with the music. How did you achieve your beatbar? Do you have the code posted somewhere so I could learn?

Code is not public now, but if you send me a dm on twitter, I can give some tips.

This game is amazing, Looking forward to a full game similar to this if you make it!

Where did you get the kick/snare sounds from?

DataDrive’s 80s Retro Futuristic Drum Pack

For those who want a Linux build, you can try launching the game through Steam using ProtonDB until then.

can you build the game for linux pls

Sooner or later. Sorry for the wait, make sure you follow so you can get a notification when it’s ready:)

yeah pls

Linux version out now! Let me know if you encounter any problems!

Where is the patreon button? I can't find it anywhere xD

(+1)

I love this game. I would like to play a full long game experience someday.

(+1)

Working on it…:)

can you make a mac version please?

Working on it but there are some problems with the current state of it. Hopefully I can release it soon but unfortunately I don’t have that much free time for it these weeks. But it’s still planned.

game is fun. its look like beat saber outside of vr. but its need work
try add new level, enemy and challenges.add a pause and select level menu too.
good luck ;)

hey your game is amazing. But it would be nice if you add the feature to left click to restart because when playing I leave my keyboard ad only hold my mouse thus it would be more convenient to have all the controls on the mouse.

Thanks for the feedback:)

(+1)

im stupid. How do i play once downloaded

(+1)

once its downloaded open it up in your files, it should open a zip file, just double click the file that says Laserwave.exe in there, it should open the game

(+1)

it just says this application may depend on other compressed files in this folder. and if i just press run it says data folder not found

(1 edit) (+1)

Just extract the folder before you play. It should be right there beside the "Run" button. (and then you run the game from the folder it generated, not the .zip!)

Very good game, i am not very good at this game, but, good game. Keep up the good work:).

Could you release a linux version? It would be a nice challenge.

You have a lot of potential! Keep up the good work!

Didn't encounter anything. Everything works great! I think the cursor might be bigger than in the Windows version, but that doesn't change anything. Keep up the good work!

Glad to hear. Thank you very much for the feedback!

hey dude, would like to know if you have seen my comment on the post-jam update. thanks!

Great game, with a lot of potential. There is a challenge, a learning curve to mastery, and potentially nearly limitless level expansion (as long as you have the music). Hope to see the longer version eventually)

(+1)

Could you release a mac version?

I hope so. Didn’t really have time to work on it lately. I’ll release it as soon as it’s tested:)

Alright, so who else used 8 lasers on level 3 like a scrub...

Jokes aside, this is a super cool concept.

(+1)

This would be even more incredible than it already is if it had like a custom mode after level 3.

Like you could choose your health, choose the boss health, the frequency of power ups, and the entire drum beat line. That would be SOOOO incredible.

(+2)(-1)

This is one of the few games in the jam that I think would actually make a successful full release. The gameplay reminds me of OSU! Great!

(+2)

We’ll see!:) thank you!

(+1)

how do you download this? :( i want to play but i dont know how to make it work :(

(+1)

What seems to be the problem? The button in the download section not working? The game is only available for Windows for now though.

(+2)

you have to put the zip file on your desktop and right-click and press extract all. Then you open the file you just extracted, open the top file, and press on the unity logo with Laserwave under it. Hope this helps! ;)

(+1)

thank youu :D

no prob!

(+1)

great game! How do you do the timeline thing for the notes in Unity?

(+2)

Well, the short answer is that it’s a pain in the ass.:) But basically they are all UI elements generated from the upcoming loops. The background is generated based on the length and the dots are positioned based on the drum informations in the loop. Then a script moves them in a direction and disables them when tey are not needed anymore. Hope this is sufficient but feel free to ask more.

Incredible game, I had so much fun!  I would love to see a full release of this game!

(1 edit) (+1)

one of the best games i would love to see it as a full release

and also the song is pretty cool can i use it in my youtube video?

(1 edit) (+1)

The song is not mine. If you mean the synth bass loop, check here.

(+1)

ok thx

(+2)

I somehow flew off screen and I could not return back because I just kept on jump further and further up. After ~10 seconds my lasers didn't even reach the screen and I was fully softlocked (I couldn't even die). I have no idea how I got off screen, but it happened and I had to start over because of that

(+2)

what if we could upload or make our own beat/song?

(+1)

omg that good idea

(1 edit) (+1)

I seriously love the idea behind Laserwave!! Judging by the number of people asking for more, it looks like I'm not the only one.

It would be really fun to make some music for this game! I made 2 demos for ya. Here is the first one, and here is a more retro one.

(The rhythm patterns for these are (1) this and (2) this.)

If you like these you can message me on twitter @mistwinsounds and I would be very happy to make more.

that would be SO COOL to have different songs and beats and more levels omg YES

(+1)

Being able to upload levels/ songs would be awesome!

(+1)

Great work!! A few suggestions; make the high notes red for attacks and the low notes blue for movement, and sync the colour of our avatar with them. It was difficult for me to glance back and forth so I think it would help keep track of what comes next. during some sections of the song I found I could get stuck at the bottom of the screen. Perhaps have a very limited control for boosting outside of the rhythm, or make the avatar a little bouncier at the bottom? Not 100% sure. Anyway great job thanks for putting this up for us to enjoy!

(+2)

I prefer it like this and just learning the pattern, as it is a rhythm game. having played it a few times it feels really good to have learned the pattern.

I agree with DavoidZX. It is a rhythm game and the patterns do repeat. Plus, at the start of each level theres a full 4 (or 8 depending on the level) bar period before the hexagon appears so you know what the beat is, AND the 3rd level already demonstrates that idea perfectly and shows how you beat is incorporated every 8th bar so you know whats coming up.

Anyway, yes, DavoidZX is right, because this is primarily a rhythm game, and having to depend on just your eyes and not your eyes AND your ears is probably not the best of things to do.

(+1)

Man, oh man, i fu!#$!# love this, i need more of this, with more music and stuff i really loved this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(+3)

I NEED MORE OF THIS. I LOVE IT.

(+1)

I wouldn't give up till I at least heard more of the music. Very clever game idea.

(+1)

Amazing game

(+1)

Really cool game man!!! But I found a bug! It's possible to go over the screen boundaries without being bounced back. The easiest way that I found to reproduce it is at the begining of the game by keeping the mouse closer to the top corner of the losangle, in the third beat it will over the screen and it's impossible to get it back. Also, I think would be nice to get some inpirations from Guitar Hero series and similar games by having score and combos.

(+2)

I would love more music tracks and more levels!

(-6)

I hate it.

(+4)

Explain why

(+1)(-4)

Too hard. (Don't take it personal. I am not a gamer and I am not used to fast movements with a mouse. The idea and is pretty good tho.)

(1 edit) (+3)

If you hate games because your not good at them and you dont play games much, you would hate most games.

(-2)

Actually no. There are many idle games or logic games.

(+2)

If this isnt your preferred game type why give it a bad review?

(+1)

This game is so much fun! I wish there was a way to import your own songs, or community-made songs. But that sounds pretty difficult. Anyway, glad to have played it!

(+1)

This game is so fun! I’m instantly immersed into the game and can’t stop bobbing my head to the beat. I think you should add a damage animation as it’s kind of hard to tell when you get hurt, but other then that it’s very well done!

(+1)

Short, but really fun. Also hard.

(+1)

man that was fun!
